Ahmed Ibrahim orders traffic plan ahead of Pamprom Junction road closure

Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has instructed the contractor handling the Dr Busia Highway to devise thorough traffic management plans prior to the temporary closure of the Pamprom Junction–First Light section starting September 7. This closure is necessary for the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project's extensive drainage improvement works.

During a site visit, Mr Ibrahim emphasized the need for clearly marked detour routes, sufficient road signs, appropriate barriers, and traffic management personnel at critical junctions. He stressed that the well-being and convenience of motorists should be the top concern throughout this undertaking. Mr Ibrahim also demanded an intensified public awareness campaign regarding the closure and alternate routes through television, radio, online platforms, and community engagements, urging commuters to be informed and avoid causing unnecessary delays.

The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly were additionally asked to clear all on-street parking along the detour routes by the end of the business day on Saturday to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Mr Ibrahim stressed the importance of adhering to the project schedule and completing the drainage works within the set timeframe, with the first phase anticipated to be finished by November 2026, and the remaining section by October 2027.

These efforts align with government's broader flood mitigation objectives under the GARID to enhance stormwater drainage and boost flood resilience across the Odaw Basin.
