Abu Dhabi Police warn against stopping in road after series of collisions

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to drivers following a series of collisions caused by distracted driving and vehicles stopping in the middle of the road. The police shared footage showing the traffic accident in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Centre. According to Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, drivers must avoid stopping in the middle of the road, even during emergencies, as it can lead to serious dangers for other road users.

Instead, motorists should continue driving to the nearest exit or a safe location whenever possible. If a vehicle cannot be moved, drivers are advised to immediately contact the Command and Control Centre on 999 for assistance, enabling authorities to respond swiftly and minimize the risk of additional accidents. Police emphasized the importance of staying focused behind the wheel, avoiding distractions, and being prepared to react to unforeseen situations on the road. Under UAE traffic law, distracted driving incurs a Dh800 fine and four traffic points.
