2027: ADC questions APC’s priority as insecurity ravages Zamfara

Zamfara State's African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns about the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s priorities in light of the escalating insecurity in the region. On Wednesday, the APC and its affiliated groups organized a 7-kilometre solidarity walk in Gusau to commemorate the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, as the party's Director-General for the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

However, the ADC's state chairman, Hon. Kabiru Garba, expressed his disapproval in a statement released on Thursday.

Garba argued that the timing of the celebration was inappropriate, considering the severe security challenges faced by Zamfara's communities. He highlighted the ongoing issues of banditry, killings, kidnappings, displacement, and the destruction of livelihoods. The ADC emphasized that the APC could have utilized the occasion to shed light on the plight of the victims of insecurity instead of concentrating on celebrating a political appointment.

The party questioned why there were no expressions of solidarity with families who had lost their loved ones, as well as women and children displaced by insecurity. They further challenged the APC to explain the concrete measures taken by the Federal Government to permanently address the insecurity in Zamfara communities. Garba urged political leadership to prioritize the welfare and safety of citizens above political positions, appointments, and campaign structures.

Although the ADC is not opposed to political mobilization, it strongly objected to what it deemed as "politics without humanity."
