2 trapped workers rescued alive from a tunnel in Nepal, officials say

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) -- Rescuers in Nepal successfully rescued a worker alive from a tunnel on Friday, according to Nepal Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Raja Ram Basnet. The news follows a series of devastating floods that struck the country eight days prior, with at least 1,259 people killed and over 5,000 still missing, as reported by the disaster management agency.

The rescue occurred at the Trishul 3A tunnel, where approximately 500 workers are believed to be trapped. Local television channels broadcast images of the rescued worker, covered in mud and carried from the site on a rescuer's shoulder. A medical team was on-site to assess the worker's condition.
