2 brothers among 8 men charged with murder after Shah Alam brawl

Eight men, including two brothers, have been charged in a Shah Alam magistrates' court with the murder of a 23-year-old man during a brawl in Taman Alam Megah last month. The accused, who nodded in acknowledgment of the charges, include Soulami Ahimsha, SR Harikrisnan, MK Puwaneswaran, A Rhubban, K Thivagar, Shaik Hasanudin Ahlauwudin, Sheikh Mauludin Ahlauwudin, and R Darvin Raj.

No pleas were entered as the case will be heard by the High Court. The prosecution alleges that the murder took place at Jalan Mandolin in Taman Alam Megah on August 25 at 1:59pm. The charge is framed under Section 149 of the Penal Code, which deals with conspiracy to commit a crime, and is connected to Section 302, which deals with murder.

A conviction for murder under Section 302 carries a sentence of either the death penalty or a term of imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, and if the offender is not sentenced to death, they may also be subject to caning. The deputy public prosecutor, Nur Alya Zaphfirah Al Zaphni, argued on behalf of the prosecution, while lawyers Navin Punj and Nur Aida Zainuddin represented three of the accused, with the remaining five unrepresented. The court denied bail and set October 13 for further proceedings.
