Works and Housing Minister pushes to cut Kaneshie road closure from one year to 6–9 months

Works and Housing Minister Ahmed Ibrahim has urged a reassessment of the proposed year-long closure of a section of the Winneba–Accra road at Kaneshie. He expressed concerns that the planned construction could cause significant disruption to commuters, businesses and traffic flow if the closure isn't properly managed. During an inspection of the project site, the Minister pointed out the potential chaos that a full-year shutdown could bring to the thousands of motorists who use the route each day.

"If we start, there will be a lot of inconvenience. The situation will be chaotic," he warned. The Minister called for collaboration among the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Finance Ministry, the National Security Ministry and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council to devise strategies that would minimize the impact of the closure.

He questioned the proposed 12-month completion period, suggesting that it could be reduced to between six and nine months. The construction aims to improve the Kaneshie stretch of the Winneba–Accra road, but authorities have not yet laid out detailed traffic diversion plans, leaving commuters and businesses waiting for clarification on how traffic will be managed throughout the project.
