What kind of hypocrisy is this? – Hamza Suhuyini slams NPP over Chief Justice’s remarks

National Democratic Congress (NDC) spokesperson Hamza Suhuyini has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for displaying hypocrisy regarding Chief Justice Baffour Anane's recent remarks on public sector performance. During an interview on JoyNews' AM Show, Suhuyini pointed out that the NPP had previously lauded the Chief Justice for speaking out against illegal mining, yet now questions his impartiality due to his criticism of the party's governance record.

During a visit to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) on September 2, the Chief Justice praised the institute's achievements and questioned what Ghana had been doing over the past eight years. He expressed admiration for SSNIT's performance, referring to the troubled history of Labadi Beach Hotel's sale and other state-owned enterprises' recent successes. Suhuyini emphasized that the Chief Justice has a constitutional right to express political views, and the NPP's selective criticism reveals a lack of consistency.

He also reminded the NPP of past support for the Chief Justice's stance on illegal mining, specifically referencing NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah's praise for his intervention. Suhuyini argued that the NPP had repeatedly supported the Chief Justice's comments in Parliament without raising ethical concerns. He accused the party of applying double standards, questioning whether his current criticism is partisan.

Suhuyini challenged critics to identify the specific law or ethical principle violated by the Chief Justice's statements. He emphasized that the Chief Justice's engagement with non-judicial institutions is part of his role in fostering collaboration and understanding among public sector bodies. Suhuyini maintained that the Chief Justice's comments reflect the country's economic challenges and should not be dismissed as partisan.
