Violent Labrador arrest caught on video, referred to police watchdog

Newfoundland and Labrador’s police watchdog is investigating a violent RCMP arrest in a Labrador Indigenous community, after the incident was captured on camera. The review comes after a video of the event in Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation was shared on Facebook. The footage shows three RCMP officers attempting to arrest a man inside a home.

One officer is seen punching the man in the face, while another is captured throwing him against a wall, punching him again and repeatedly striking him on the ground. The man is then allegedly hit multiple times with a stun gun. The RCMP has stated they met with community leaders to review the incident and will continue to engage in discussions with the community.
