Unfilled NEET super speciality seats to go to Tamil Nadu: Centre tells Supreme Court

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar emphasized the importance of merging traditional knowledge with contemporary technology on September 3, 2026, during the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) held at the Chennai Trade Centre. Arlekar argued that while some might consider the Mahabharata a myth, it serves as a historical account of their society.

The Udyoga Parva, a segment of the Mahabharata, contains management lessons dating back 5,000 years, which could provide valuable guidance today. He also pointed out that India is striving towards an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) and that realizing this vision necessitates working collectively towards self-reliance in all facets of development.

ASME's Executive Director & CEO, Thomas Costabile, noted that India's rapid progress in manufacturing, digital technologies, energy systems, transportation, and advanced research presents opportunities not only for the nation but globally. Costabile urged engineers to be bold, collaborate openly, and seize opportunities together.

IMECE India's Congress Chair K. Shanmuga Sundaram, during his remarks, highlighted that India no longer requires merely engineers but engineering solutions for clean energy, mobility, water, manufacturing, climate resilience, healthcare, and infrastructure. As the host city, Chennai was noted for its strengths in manufacturing, automobiles, aerospace, energy, electronics, infrastructure, and research, making it a suitable location for IMECE 2026.
