Umno perlu jelas pendirian jika mahu PRU16 awal, kata Pemuda PKR

Pemuda PKR's Deputy Chief, Nabil Halimi, has urged Umno to clearly state whether it wants to continue with the current coalition, Umno Madani, or align with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) party. The statement comes in response to Umno President Zahid Hamidi's suggestion that PRU16 should be held earlier. Halimi emphasized that Umno, if continuing with Madani, must bear the responsibility until the end of its mandate, while a support for PN should be followed by surrendering positions within the government.

He warned against Umno being seen split between the government and opposition, citing the disparity in political support between states and Putrajaya. Halimi called on the public not to be burdened with such political divisions, stressing that the current Madani government, led by Pakatan Harapan (PH), can continue to govern as long as it maintains the majority support of the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat).

He added that the government formed by PH, along with Sarawak's Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PB), Sabah's Ganding Rakyat (GRS), and others, will continue to perfect the remainder of its term. "Use the time available to continue reform, bolster the economy, and resolve the people's issues," Halimi said. Meanwhile, Zahid, who also leads the Barisan Nasional (BN), has suggested that PRU16 should be held earlier rather than the remaining parliamentary term which would conclude by next year.

However, Zahid said that if the parliamentary term ends at its conclusion, the bloc is ready to face it. He also said that the decision to work with other blocs in the election will come down to assessing the benefits and drawbacks, including analyzing the political landscape in each state. The 15th parliamentary term is scheduled to end around December 2027, while the election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of Parliament.
