Umno perlu jelas pendirian jika mahu PRU16 awal, kata Pemuda PKR

Umno needs to clarify its stance if it wishes for PRU16 to be early, according to Pemuda PKR deputy chief Nabil Halimi. Referring to Umno President Zahid Hamidi's remarks, Halimi emphasized that Umno must either continue supporting the Madani government or align with Perikatan Nasional (PN), a successor to BN. Halimi cautioned against Umno being seen as having a foot in both the ruling and opposition camps.

He further stressed that the rakyat should not be burdened with such political fragmentation while highlighting that Madani government can continue ruling as long as it maintains the majority support of the House of Representatives. He stated that the government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) in conjunction with Sarawakian and Sabahian parties will continue refining the remainder of the mandate this term.

Halimi advised utilizing the time to implement reforms, strengthen the economy, and resolve public issues. Meanwhile, Zahid, who also chairs Barisan Nasional (BN), suggested that an early PRU16 would be preferable compared to a parliamentary term ending in the coming year. However, he added that if the parliamentary term concludes by its end, the coalition is ready to face it.

In a related development, Zahid said that deciding to collaborate with other blocs during the election would be based on mutual benefits and feasibility, including considering the political landscape in each state. The 15th parliamentary term is scheduled to end around December 2027, while the election needs to be held within 60 days after the dissolution of Parliament.
