Uba Sani reviews traditional rulers’ salaries, approves security allowances

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has recently approved a salary and allowance review for traditional rulers, including Emirs, Chiefs, District Heads and Village Heads, across the state's three senatorial districts. The Commissioner of Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, revealed that this decision aimed at enhancing their welfare and enabling them to better fulfill their responsibilities at the grassroots level.

Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, further announced that Governor Uba Sani has authorized monthly security allowances for all 35 Emirates and Chiefdoms in Kaduna State, starting from September 1st, 2026. This measure is intended to bolster grassroots intelligence gathering and provide support to security agencies in addressing crime and other security concerns.

Malam Ahmed Maiyaki emphasized that the administration recognizes traditional institutions as vital partners in grassroots governance, peace-building, conflict resolution, and security. He highlighted the unique position of these leaders as custodians of their communities, their close connection to the grassroots, and their ability to detect emerging threats, facilitate timely intelligence, and resolve disputes before they escalate.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture stressed that these approvals underscore Governor Uba Sani's commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and equipping them with the necessary resources to contribute effectively to peace, security, and development. Maiyaki also urged residents to maintain their cooperation with traditional institutions and security agencies by providing reliable information to safeguard lives and property, ensuring a safer and more prosperous state for all.
