UAE aid mission departs for Nepal to help thousands affected by flooding and landslides

A UAE relief mission has departed for Nepal to assist thousands impacted by devastating floods and landslides that have claimed over 1,000 lives, leaving hundreds more still unaccounted for. Comprising experts from the UAE Joint Operations Command, the Dubai Police search and rescue team, and the UAE Aid Agency, the specialized group is equipped with the skills necessary for disaster relief, medical evacuation, and first aid.

The mission aims to collaborate closely with Nepalese authorities to aid search and rescue efforts and deliver essential medical support.

In recent weeks, the UAE has transported significant supplies to Nepal, with one aircraft carrying 83 tonnes of food and shelter materials, while a second aircraft transported 45 tonnes of relief items. These provisions encompass basic foodstuffs, critical goods, and power generators. Earlier this week, the UAE pledged a $10 million humanitarian aid package to augment the ongoing relief operations. This financial assistance will be managed by the UAE Aid Agency, following the instructions of President Sheikh Mohamed.

In collaboration with the UAE embassy in Kathmandu, the agency is tasked with coordinating with local authorities and international organizations to ensure the timely delivery of aid to every affected individual. This mission represents a continuation of the UAE's consistent involvement in Nepal during times of crisis. According to Wam, the UAE's approach to urgent humanitarian action is integral to its foreign policy and global role.
