UAE aid mission departs for Nepal to help thousands affected by flooding and landslides

A UAE relief mission has departed for Nepal to provide aid after a flash flood and landslides claimed over 1,000 lives, with thousands more still unaccounted for, according to state news agency Wam. The specialist team consists of personnel from the UAE Joint Operations Command, the Dubai Police search and rescue unit, and the UAE Aid Agency.

The experts are trained in disaster relief, medical evacuation, and first aid, and will collaborate with Nepalese authorities to bolster search and rescue efforts and offer emergency medical assistance. According to the National, the UAE previously transported 83 tonnes of food supplies and shelter materials to Nepal, while a second aircraft carried 45 tonnes of relief supplies, including essential food items, goods, and power generators.

Last week, the UAE pledged a $10 million humanitarian aid package to bolster critical relief operations, which will be administered by the UAE Aid Agency under President Sheikh Mohamed's guidance. The agency, in coordination with the UAE embassy in Kathmandu, is working alongside local authorities and international organizations to ensure aid reaches all those affected.

This latest mission represents the UAE's consistent pattern of involvement in Nepal during times of crisis, as highlighted by Wam.
