Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua fight confirmed to hold in New York

The highly anticipated heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been officially confirmed to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Fury announced the news on Instagram, accompanied by a poster of himself and Joshua against the backdrop of the iconic New York City skyline. He expressed excitement about the venue and the opportunity, stating it would be a memorable weekend in NYC.

Joshua, however, was not mentioned in the post, and neither he nor his promoter, Matchroom Boxing, had confirmed the news as of the report. The fight is anticipated to take place in November, with November 20 as the preferred date, after both fighters signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

Joshua had initially insisted on the fight occurring in the United Kingdom, but Netflix and Alalshikh pushed for a U.S.-based clash, prompting negotiations led by Fury's promoter, Eddie Hearn. Hearn noted that Joshua's team was initially reluctant to hold the fight outside the UK but recognized the need for a compromise. Fury, who has a professional record of 36 wins, has only lost twice, both to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

He made a return to the ring in July, defeating Polish fighter Mariusz Wach in a tune-up bout in Pattaya, Thailand. Joshua also secured a tune-up win on July 25 against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, which reportedly facilitated the commencement of discussions with Fury's team. The prospect of a Fury-Joshua fight was first halted in 2021 after a U.S. judge ruled that Fury must face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout.
