Troops overpower terrorists, rescue kidnap victims across five states

Operation WHIRL STROKE, Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other Nigerian Army units have successfully overpowered terrorists and rescued seven kidnapped victims in four states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Nigeria Army announced the operation on social media, detailing their actions in Taraba, Zamfara, Kaduna, FCT, and Kebbi states.

In Taraba State, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE received intelligence and raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, Takum Local Government Area. The troops apprehended five suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, and civilian items. The suspect leader fled but was never found.

Zamfara State saw Operation FANSAN YAMMA ambushing terrorists as they moved between Fakai, Kwanar Jolof, Tashar Dole, and Zurmi Local Government Areas. The troops seized an RPG launcher, RPG bomb, AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.

Kaduna State troops intercepted a vehicle during a checkpoint on Saulawa-Zaria Road. A passenger resisted inspection and was subdued before being found with 793 rounds of ammunition concealed in a gari bag. The vehicle and driver are under military custody.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) witnessed the rescue of Mrs. Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (Rtd), who was kidnapped on September 1, 2026. The Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison pursued the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the victim at Angwan Sabo Village. Two additional kidnappers were arrested near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council, along with one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 19 rounds of ammunition.

Kebbi State's Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued six kidnapped victims along the Wasagu-Ayu Road after engaging terrorists. The swift response led the terrorists to flee, abandoning their victims, who were unharmed and handed over to local authorities.
