TikTok is bringing voice notes to the comment section

TikTok is set to transform its comment section by introducing a range of new interactive features. These additions include voice comments, polls, photo carousels, and Live Photos. This expansion aims to enhance user engagement and make comments an integral part of the content. Currently, TikTok's comments section is bustling, with over 1.7 billion comments posted daily.

The most significant addition is Voice Comments, enabling users to record and post audio messages up to 60 seconds long directly under a video. This could allow users to react, laugh, or sing along in real-time. However, this feature may also open doors for potential misuse and harassment, which TikTok plans to manage through existing Community Guidelines and a mix of human and automated moderation tools.

Comment Polls are another new feature, allowing creators to create polls directly in the comment section, providing a way for viewers to vote on various topics. In addition, Photo Carousel Comments now allow users to attach up to nine images in a single comment, replacing the need for a single reaction photo. Lastly, Live Photo Comments enable users to upload Live Photos directly from their camera roll, offering a glimpse of movement within the image.

These new features will roll out globally over the next month. TikTok's endeavors to enrich its comments section suggest a shift towards treating comments as a dynamic part of the content, rather than an afterthought.
