Local Government Service partners Celltel to accelerate digital transformation

The Local Government Service has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Celltel Networks Limited to bolster its information technology infrastructure and hasten the digital transformation of local government administration. At the signing event, Professor Lord Mensah, Head of the Local Government Service, emphasized the importance of upgrading the service's technological backbone to better fulfill its mandate and provide faster, more efficient services for citizens.

He highlighted the partnership's role in advancing the smart city concept, which could drive opportunities under the government's 24-hour economy agenda.

Professor Mensah clarified that the initiative extends beyond merely connecting local government offices. The goal is to create a technology hub specifically designed to equip young people with digital skills, while simultaneously enabling citizens to access public services seamlessly and efficiently through technology.

Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, Head of Celltel Networks Limited, underscored that the advanced technology system should not only enhance the Local Government Service's operational efficiency but also generate revenue streams. He explained that a robust digital infrastructure could significantly improve the delivery of local government services, while simultaneously establishing sustainable mechanisms to generate revenue for operations and development.
