Thailand warns 54 provinces of flash floods, landslides

Bangkok faced potential flash floods, forest runoff, landslides and urban flooding from September 4 to 7, according to Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM). The warning affected 54 provinces, including Bangkok, as the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command monitored weather conditions following a Meteorological Department forecast of heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand.

The Meteorological Department anticipated heavy to very heavy rainfall in northern and upper northeast regions due to a monsoon trough moving across the area. Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon was affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Authorities instructed 54 provinces to monitor weather, rainfall, and water levels, deploy response teams and disaster-relief machinery, and prepare temporary shelters for potential evacuations.

Natural attractions like caves and waterfalls were closely monitored, with warnings issued if dangerous conditions arose. Residents were advised to follow official updates, disaster warnings, and prepare accordingly. Assistance could be requested via the DDPM’s "ปภ.รับแจ้งเหตุ1784" Line account or the 1784 disaster hotline, which operates 24/7.
