Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Against Curbs On Entry To Government Schools Amid CJP Campaign

On September 3, 2026, the Supreme Court declined to hear a public interest litigation challenging restrictions imposed by education authorities in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on outsiders, journalists, YouTubers, social media users and civil society representatives entering government schools. The petition, filed by Priya Mishra, argued that the restrictions on photography, videography, interviews, audio recording and livestreaming violated fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

The Court's decision to not entertain the writ petition leaves the restrictions in place. The dispute stems from the "School Thik Karo" campaign by the Cockroach Janat Party (CJP) to highlight deficiencies in government school infrastructure. While the restrictions aim to regulate access and recording, the petition contends that documenting the physical condition of schools for public interest purposes should not be treated the same as recording identifiable children.
