Somoco Ghana launches “Safe Journey” 2026 road safety campaign with NRSA

Somoco Ghana Limited, the exclusive distributor of Bajaj Automobiles in Ghana, has introduced its inaugural "Safe Journey" 2026 Road Safety Campaign, collaborating with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Ministry of Transport, and Ghana Police Service. Active from now until December 2026, this initiative by Somoco aims to enhance road safety, focusing on motorcycle and tricycle users.

The campaign includes various practical measures such as rider education, training, licensing support via the Somoco Riding Academy, and a heightened adoption of helmets and protective gear.

Nii Ayi Hyde, Managing Director of Somoco Ghana Limited, emphasized that as a prominent mobility provider, Somoco bears the responsibility of promoting road safety that extends beyond merely placing motorcycles and tricycles on Ghanaian roads. He underscored that the campaign signifies Somoco's dedication to practical actions, including rider training and licensing assistance, safety education during the purchase process, and the promotion of helmets and protective equipment.

He urged all stakeholders to contribute to making roads safer, emphasizing that every road user shares the responsibility to ensure journeys conclude safely.

Jerry Aye, Head of Marketing at Somoco Ghana Limited, expressed the company's goal to simplify safer choices for riders and instill habits that extend beyond the campaign's duration. Abraham Amabila, Director-General of the NRSA, praised Somoco Ghana for spearheading the initiative, describing it as a crucial road safety education effort. He highlighted that road safety is a collective national responsibility and encouraged other corporations to join in reducing road accidents.

Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, addressed the gathering on the progress of legalizing and regulating commercial motorcycle operations, or Okada, and the necessity of maintaining a proper regulatory framework for such activities. The launch also saw the participation of DCOP Prince Cobbinah, NRSA, DVLA, Ministry of Transport, Ghana Police Service representatives, transport operators, riders, ride-hailing partners, and media personnel.

In line with the campaign, Somoco Ghana Limited donated a brand-new Bajaj Boxer 125 HD motorcycle to the NRSA to aid its road safety endeavors. The "Safe Journey" campaign will continue until December, with activities centered around rider education, safety awareness, donations, the inauguration of the DVLA-certified Somoco Riding Academy, training and licensing support for commercial riders, and the promotion of responsible road-user behavior across Ghana.
