Scott has big night in ‘Burgers win

Spartanburg experienced a thrilling win on Thursday, with the Hub City Softball team beating Jersey Shore 11-4. The game began with a bang in the bottom of the first inning, as A.J. Russell got the crowd excited. He struck out three batters on just 14 pitches. The bottom of the first saw four runs score consecutively, as Paxton Kling singled, Maxton Martin followed with a single, Antonis Macias doubled, and Quincy Scott blasted a long home run into left field. Scott's 12th home run of the season gave Hub City a 3-0 lead.

However, Jersey Shore wasn't done just yet. In the fourth inning, they scored two runs on four hits, putting Hub City down 3-2. But Russell's defense came through, as he threw out BlueClaws first baseman Kodey Shojinaga attempting to score from second on a single.

The bullpen stepped up, with Luke Savage and Cole Fehrman delivering four perfect innings. After the three-run first inning, Velasquez settled in for Jersey Shore. Jake Eddington took over for the fifth, and Hub City's offense took charge. With two singles and a walk, Martin drove in a run, and a wild pitch and Scott's single brought in two more runs, making it 7-2. A two-run single by Arturo De Freitas sealed the game for Eddington.

Kevin Warunek entered the inning with De Freitas at first, walking the first batter he faced, but Esteban Mejia followed with a single, driving in ten more runs. A sacrifice fly from Hub City wrapped up the 12-batter inning, adding one more run to the score.

The Spartanburgers and BlueClaws will return to action on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. ET. With the series tied 1-1, Hub City pitcher Jormy Nivar is set to face Ryan Dromboski.
