Schools, ferry routes suspended as Typhoon Saudel lashes east China

China's Fujian province has experienced widespread disruption due to Typhoon Saudel, forcing closures and evacuations. Schools in Fuzhou and Quanzhou suspended in-person activities, and ferry routes were suspended. Tourist attractions, including theme parks, were temporarily closed. The province's emergency management authority warned of flash floods and landslides.

Over 247,700 people in high-risk areas had been evacuated the previous week as authorities issued warnings of heavy rain. The typhoon made its third landfall in China after previously hitting Zhejiang province twice. Scientists predict that extreme weather events will become more frequent and intense due to global warming caused by fossil fuel emissions.

China, despite being the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases, is also a leader in renewable energy and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. A recent catastrophic flood in Nepal's Tibet region claimed over 1,200 lives, with more than 4,750 people still missing.
