Russia to close German cultural centers after Berlin blames Moscow for airport drone plot

In a significant diplomatic move, Russia has announced plans to close German cultural centers throughout the country, according to Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This decision follows Berlin's accusations that Moscow was responsible for a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, which was later defused. As a result, both the Russian Consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in Berlin are set to close their doors.

Lavrov stated that the closure of German cultural institutions in Russia, including those run by the Goethe-Institut, would be a direct consequence of Berlin's accusations. He emphasized that such a response would demonstrate a lack of self-respect on the part of Germany. Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Lavrov also noted that the closure of the Russian House would signify the end of cultural presence in Russia.

The attempted attack on the airport, which serves as a major international freight hub supporting Ukraine, has led to widespread accusations from Western officials that Russia has been engaging in a campaign of sabotage and disruption.
