Rural Development Ministry wants RM4b for road projects, says already used 94pc of 2026’s RM2b

The Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW) is seeking RM4 billion annually to sustain ongoing rural road projects and new ones. The ministry's statement highlights the phased nature of these projects, some of which may take several years to complete. In 2026, RM2.107 billion was allocated for rural road projects, of which 415 projects have been implemented as of September 1, with an expenditure of approximately RM1.995 billion, or 94% of the allocation.

This allocation figure demonstrates the active implementation of projects across the nation and the necessity to ensure the orderly completion of ongoing projects. The KKDW has always undertaken measures to maximize the utilization of available allocations, with priority given to the continuity of ongoing projects. The ministry appreciates an additional RM300 million approved by the Finance Ministry, which will help meet the current needs of rural road projects.

Rural road development is essential to daily life in rural communities, providing easier access to schools, hospitals, clinics, markets, and essential services. KKDW will continue to focus on implementing rural road projects effectively and ensuring their benefits reach the people, working closely with the Finance Ministry, the Economy Ministry, and relevant agencies to improve project coordination and sustainability.

All allocations will continue to be managed prudently and responsibly, in accordance with government financial procedures.
