Riley Herbst joins Legacy Motor Club in No. 84 for 2027 NASCAR Cup season

Legacy Motor Club has announced that they are set to welcome Riley Herbst to their 2027 NASCAR Cup Series lineup. Herbst, who is 27 years old, will be driving the No. 84 Toyota for the organization's third full-time team next year. The announcement came on September 3, 2026, following a period of speculation about the club's driver roster.

Herbst will join the club after spending two seasons with 23XI Racing. He is now the latest addition to Legacy's stable of drivers under majority owner Jimmie Johnson. Erik Jones is the other driver currently under contract with the organization. The club has one more driver seat available after announcing on September 2 that John Hunter Nemechek will not return next season in the No. 42 Toyota.

The Athletic reported that Josh Berry is seen as the leading candidate to fill this remaining spot. Herbst has a proven track record in the NASCAR Cup Series. He has previously won three times in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and has shown significant improvement since his rookie year. His average finish time improved from 26.4 in 2025 to 22.2 in 2026. Notably, Herbst has secured three top-10 finishes in the current season, marking his first such performances since 2025.

During the off-season, Herbst had to miss the Daytona race due to lingering effects from a crash he sustained during a previous event at New Hampshire. Despite this setback, Herbst's resume speaks to his potential as a key contributor to Legacy Motor Club's 2027 Cup Series campaign.
