Rescue efforts continue as Nepal-China flood death toll surpasses 1,270

Singapore's Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has launched a fundraising campaign to support victims of the Nepal-China floods, raising over $3 million. SRC CEO Benjamin William expressed gratitude for the public's response, stating that the donations will aid communities affected by the floods in immediate relief efforts and recovery. The SRC contributed an additional $170,000 in humanitarian aid to the campaign, which funds emergency food supplies and access to safe potable water for 2,500 households and 750 displaced people, respectively.

The Nepal Red Cross has also sent out supplies, including blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, and emergency toilets. The floods, caused by flash flooding in Tibet and Nepal, have resulted in over 1,200 deaths and more than 4,200 people still missing, including nine Singaporeans. The Singapore Government has contributed US$100,000 to the campaign, and both civilian and Singapore Armed Forces supplies will be sent to Nepal.

Donations can be made via Giving.sg, PayNow, cheque, or in person at Red Cross House. Donors are eligible for a 100 percent tax deduction under the Overseas Humanitarian Assistance Tax Deduction Scheme.
