Rapper Erigga’s ‘family money’ post triggers debate as Davido hits back

Rapper Erigga sparked an internet debate by praising musicians who did not come from wealthy families and had to work for every dollar they earned. The Nigerian artist tweeted, "Shoutout to all the musicians who don't come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn." In response, Afrobeats star Davido retweeted the post and countered that musicians from wealthy backgrounds also deserve recognition for their hard work. He wrote, "Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top."

Davido further dismissed Erigga's tweet as "useless motivation" and called the rapper an "imbecile." The exchange generated mixed reactions on social media with around 35,000 posts linked to the debate. Some users defended Erigga for celebrating artistes who succeeded without a privileged background, while others suggested the tweet was a subtle dig at Davido, who comes from a wealthy family.
