Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice rejects allegations, urges patience

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the Chief Justice for engaging in partisan politics, following a video in which he allegedly praised a parastatal under the ruling NDC government more favorably than during the previous NPP administration. The party expressed deep shock and disgust over the Chief Justice's comments, which the NPP deemed inappropriate for the head of Ghana's Judiciary.

The NPP cited constitutional provisions, emphasizing the Judiciary's independence and the Chief Justice's oath to administer justice impartially, regardless of political affiliation. The party accused the Chief Justice of aligning himself with political appointees and participating in functions organized by the current government, stating that such behavior undermines his impartial role in judicial proceedings.

They also criticized the Chief Justice's vow to ensure the President's agenda succeeds, questioning the specific agenda he referred to, noting that it may include the ongoing Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which targets individuals associated with the NPP. The NPP further alleged selective justice, pointing to the accelerated issuance of warrants in political cases involving NPP members, such as the arrest of Chairman Wontumi.

The Chief Justice's alleged neglect of the Judiciary's own issues, including deteriorating court facilities, while simultaneously acting as a liaison between the Judiciary and the Executive, was also highlighted. The NPP warned of a major press conference to expose further details of the Chief Justice's conduct, reiterating that the Judiciary belongs to the people of Ghana and should remain free from political influence.
