Policeman caught accepting ₹20,000 bribe; another constable escapes

Karnataka's Lokayukta police have apprehended a police constable, Parashuram, who was allegedly caught accepting a ₹20,000 bribe, while his colleague, Veeresh, managed to flee the scene before they could identify him. The two constables, who work at the Brahmapur Police Station in Kalaburagi city, are accused of demanding money from Kanna Raju Patil, a resident of Bapu Nagar.

According to the complainant, Parashuram and Veeresh threatened to harm Patil's son, Karthik, if he did not pay the bribe. The two policemen had allegedly been visiting Patil's house, accusing his son of involvement in theft and robbery, and threatening to detain him at the police station or force him out of the area. Initially, the policemen demanded ₹1 lakh, receiving ₹50,000 as an advance, after which they allegedly demanded an additional ₹20,000.

Upon receiving a complaint, the Lokayukta police set a trap and caught Parashuram in the act of accepting the bribe. However, Veeresh was able to evade capture before the officers could identify him. The Lokayukta police are now actively searching for Veeresh.
