PFIPC: Court rejects Adeniyi Adeyemi’s bail application

The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against Adeniyi Adeyemi's request for bail on Thursday. The court's decision came after an ex-parte motion filed by the Director-General's lawyer, M.B. Abdulazeez. Justice Obiora Egwuatu stated that the matter required input from the police and other respondents for a fair hearing. However, the court did grant a relief for the respondents to provide Adeyemi, who is currently in police custody, unrestricted access to his lawyers.

Adeyemi's legal team had accused the Attorney-General of the Federation, Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, and Assistant Inspector General of Police of filing the case against him. In the complaint, Adeyemi sought six reliefs including bail, release from detention, and the right to seek medical attention from his preferred healthcare providers.

He also asked for an order preventing the police from interrogating him without his legal counsel or directing him to make any statements. His brother, Adeniyi Adebola, testified in an affidavit that Adeyemi was unable to attend legal proceedings due to his detention. The police are currently prosecuting Adeyemi on charges of forgery, impersonation, and other offenses.

The court had fixed September 30 for Adeyemi's arraignment, but after the arrest warrant was issued in July, he was apprehended by the police and remains in custody.
