Perlis PAS Youth wants action taken against MB for ‘tarnishing’ party’s image

The Perlis PAS Youth has called for action against Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah for allegedly damaging the party and Perikatan Nasional's reputation in the state. In a debate, Ali Na’imi Ahmad Azizi, a Perlis PAS Youth delegate, stated that treating PAS assemblymen like opposition members is problematic. The state government has also been removing councillors affiliated with PAS, he noted.

Abu Bakar Hamzah assumed his position as Perlis' ninth Menteri Besar in December, replacing Shukri Ramli who resigned due to health issues. His appointment came during a political crisis in Perlis, which involved eight Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, five of whom were from Bersatu, withdrawing their support from PAS-appointed Shukri Ramli. The crisis led to the severing of ties between PAS and Bersatu, despite Bersatu continuing to be part of the opposition coalition.

Na’imi highlighted the challenge of preserving Muslim unity, a cause championed by the party. Any leadership disputes, if not addressed, could harm relations with allies. He emphasized that leadership positions should not hinder friendships and that disagreements should not create divisions.
