PAS Youth vows to keep championing Islam

Kedah PAS Youth leader Ilyas Ahmad has declared that the party will continue to champion Islam in its political struggle to preserve the religion in Malaysia. Addressing his party's 67th muktamar, Ahmad criticized those who have accused his party of exploiting religion for political gain. "Several DAP and Amanah leaders are becoming increasingly bold in belittling us," he stated.

Ahmad highlighted recent court rulings and university events as evidence that Islam and Muslim values are being sidelined. He cited the Federal Court's decision in August to reject Kedah's attempt to overturn a ban on pool betting and lottery operators, as well as the 2024 ruling that struck down 16 provisions of Kelantan's syariah criminal enactment, as proof of weakening Islamic law under the current unity government.

The PAS Youth chief also criticized unchecked erosion of Muslim values on campuses, citing a music festival at UKM and other events at UM that he believed were damaging the faith and morals of young Malaysians. "All of these show that Islam, which should be placed on a high pedestal, is instead increasingly being pushed into an undignified position," he said.

Ahmad emphasized the need for unity between PAS and Umno to remove the current government from power in the next general election, asserting that the coalition's record on Islam and Malay rights has been a failure. He emphasized that the Muslim community must champion the religion if others do not, asking DAP and Amanah leaders what else they should champion.
