OpenAI releases new model after reaching ‘critical’ cyber threshold

Recently, security personnel employed by prominent AI firms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Salesforce, and Google have expressed their intention to engage in a strike if required. These workers, who are part of the SEIU-United Service Workers West union, safeguard the buildings of these tech giants. In recent weeks, negotiations between the union and security contractors like Allied Universal and Securitas have stalled, leading the union to authorize a potential strike.

Union members have staged a protest in San Francisco, voicing their dissatisfaction over the ongoing pay negotiations. They have demanded a minimum wage of $30 and improved benefits. SEIU-USWW president David Huerta has criticized Allied Universal's proposal, stating that it is "shameful, wrong, and deeply, deeply disrespectful."

The union has also noted that the proposed wage increase of 25 cents an hour in 2027, with no raises for the following three years, is inadequate. In previous demonstrations, the security workers have highlighted the high cost of living in the Bay Area. Anthropic employees were reportedly directed to work from home last week due to the potential strike.

SEIU-USWW president Huerta emphasized the crucial role of security workers in AI companies, even if companies negotiating with them do not fully appreciate their importance. Tech companies have increased security spending in response to the growing threats against their employees. As security services become increasingly vital for AI companies, security workers may have greater leverage to improve their working conditions.
