Nvidia’s $12.93 Billion Hugging Face Deal Expands Jensen Huang's AI Platform Beyond Chips

On Thursday, Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) announced it had reached an agreement to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion. This acquisition grants Nvidia control over a significant platform within the AI industry. The company claims that Hugging Face is utilized by over 18 million developers and 200,000 businesses. While discussions about the deal had been reported earlier in the week, the specifics were not finalized until today's official announcement.

Following the news, Nvidia's stock experienced a 2.5% increase by the afternoon. Additionally, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also rose, with gains of 1.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

Hugging Face's platform serves as a central hub in the open-source AI development ecosystem, offering developers access to millions of AI models and essential datasets. Instead of constructing an AI system from scratch, developers can utilize existing models or applications, either as-is or with modifications and adaptations.
