New vertical $20 bill featuring King Charles III unveiled by Bank of Canada

The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new vertical $20 banknote featuring King Charles III. The note honors Canada's Head of State, with King Charles's commitment to sustainable action and environmental conservation reflected in its botanical elements. The $20 note showcases Canada's 13 provinces and territories through their respective floral emblems, alongside culturally significant flowers from Indigenous communities such as wild strawberries, western red cedar, braided sweetgrass, and arctic cotton.

Governor General Louise Arbour emphasized that the note represents Canada's natural heritage and ingenuity, alongside tributes to Canadian troops who served in World War I, depicted through an image of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial and poppies. The note also acknowledges Canadian military veterans, Indigenous communities, and individuals with visual impairments, ensuring its accessibility.

As is customary, the maple leaf appears on various design elements, enhancing the note's security and clear identification as Canadian. The Bank of Canada expressed gratitude to all the partners and professionals who contributed to the creation of this banknote, highlighting its safety, accessibility, and meaningful representation for Canadians.
