New details emerge on deadly Minneapolis apartment shooting

Two individuals lost their lives and multiple others sustained injuries, including three Minneapolis police officers, when a gunman unleashed a shooting inside a high-rise apartment building in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. The perpetrator responsible for the attack also perished, though the circumstances of his death have not been officially confirmed by authorities.

The primary objective of the ongoing investigation is to determine the motive behind the incident. Police were alerted to the gunfire via a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. at the apartment building located at 15 E. Grant St., situated near Loring Park and the Minneapolis Convention Center. Officers swiftly entered the premises and promptly located victims.

Following additional gunfire, they discovered another victim on an upper floor, where a dense smoke had severely impeded their visibility. One victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while another passed away after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Three officers were also injured during the incident; two of them sustained gunshot wounds, and the third suffered an injury of unspecified nature, which required surgical intervention.

All three were reported to be in stable condition. In addition to the victims and injured officers, at least four other individuals were transported to the hospital due to their injuries. The police response to the shooting was extensive, involving not only the Minneapolis Police Department but also the Minnesota State Patrol, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, St. Paul Police, and various other agencies.

The area surrounding the apartment complex was secured, with residents instructed to remain away from the scene as authorities conducted a thorough investigation. State officials, including Governor Tim Walz, extended their assistance to local authorities, while the FBI Director, Kash Patel, pledged the bureau's readiness to provide any necessary resources to aid in the investigation.
