My arrest case was spiritual – Ayitey Powers

Former Ghanaian boxer Ayitey Powers has described his recent arrest and legal battles as a spiritual experience, attributing the ordeal to the work of the devil. Upon his release from the Dansoman Circuit Court, Powers expressed gratitude to God for helping him through the challenging period and maintained that the circumstances of his arrest did not represent his true character.

Arrested on August 24, 2026, Powers had initially reported himself to the police in response to an invitation following a viral social media video. Charged with the threat of death, he was remanded for a week and later released. Powers denied any history of insults or physical attacks and questioned how he became entangled in the controversy.

He firmly believed the situation was orchestrated by spiritual forces, stating, "I have never threatened to assault someone or insult someone online before, so I don't know how this happened. I believe it's the work of the devil and Satan has planned it, yet it should not be." The financial dispute surrounding the case was also discussed, with Powers pointing out that the money involved had been pending for nearly a year, leading to his imprisonment for one week.

The controversy stemmed from ongoing disagreements between Powers and authorities over the cancellation of a boxing event he was organizing and the subsequent financial losses he claimed to have incurred. Despite the legal troubles, Powers affirmed that the experience had intensified his faith in God and indicated his intention to resume his worship activities once he had overcome the ordeal.
