Mumbai: BMC Moves To Shut Orchid City Centre Mall After Supreme Court Order; Directs Owners, Occupants To Vacate

Mumbai – The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated steps to enforce a Supreme Court directive regarding the Orchid City Centre Mall on Bellasis Road, mandating owners, developers, and occupants to vacate the premises. A joint notice was served to the concerned parties, emphasizing that no one will be allowed to enter, use, or reside in the mall until the necessary permission is granted by the appropriate authority.

This action came after a Supreme Court judgment on August 25, 2026, which ordered the mall to remain closed due to damage from a fire in 2020. The court stipulated that the entire building must stay closed until the developer completes all necessary repairs and the BMC is satisfied that the structure is safe for use and adheres to all statutory requirements.

Following the court's order, a coordination meeting was held by the BMC's D Ward with officials from the Building and Factory Department, Building Proposal Department, and Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with representatives from Nagpada Police, BEST, and the mall administration. The BMC has opted for joint action to ensure the premises are fully vacated. Notices have been posted at the mall prohibiting entry, use, and occupation.

In addition to the vacating order, the civic body has directed the disconnection of the mall's water supply and the suspension of its municipal licenses. Electricity supply will also be cut off, except for the power needed for construction-related activities. Nagpada Police have been alerted to provide protection during the operation and maintain law and order.

The BMC has appealed to all concerned parties to comply voluntarily with the Supreme Court's directives and cooperate with civic and police authorities. It has warned that non-compliance could lead to strict legal actions, including eviction and sealing of the premises.
