Mozambique: About U.S.$970 Million Mobilized for Health Sector

Maputo — The Mozambican health authorities have secured approximately 970 million US dollars in funding for various health sector programs, including vaccination and immunization initiatives. Ussene Isse, spokesperson for the country's health ministry, revealed that the funds were provided by the Global Fund and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).

The Ministry of Health consistently ranks as one of the top beneficiaries of assistance from these organizations. Isse emphasized the importance of turning the allocated resources into tangible benefits for the population, rather than merely accumulating financial support. The Administrative Tribunal, responsible for overseeing public expenditure legality, is also bolstering the skills of its auditors to evaluate the impact of health sector expenditures.

Ana Maria Gemo, President of the Administrative Tribunal, stated that this evaluation approach assesses not only the appropriate use of resources but also the connection between investments, activities, and outcomes for citizens. Gemo reaffirmed the Tribunal's commitment to maintaining independence, rigor, and responsibility in its endeavors to optimize the management of public resources allocated to the health sector.
