Madrid planta a Hacienda y no acudirá a la votación de la reforma de la financiación autonómica

The Madrid region has announced it will not attend the Council of Fiscal and Financial Policy (CPFF) meeting scheduled for tomorrow to vote on the new model for autonomous financing, and has encouraged other PP-governed regions to do the same in an attempt to block the reform. Following a technical committee meeting prior to the vote, Madrid has stated it will not participate in the CPFF vote, where the Ministry of Finance, led by Arcadi España, aims to approve the new model with the sole votes in favor from Catalonia and the Canary Islands.

Government sources claim they have expressed this position in internal meetings with the national PP leadership and other Economy and Finance advisers from the party. Prior to the meeting between autonomous councillors and the Finance Minister yesterday, a technical discussion was held, which sources describe as frustrating, highlighting the fact that despite presenting several proposals and even requesting a one-month postponement of the vote, hoping for advances, the Ministry refused any changes.

The only way to prevent the agreement from being finalized tomorrow at the CPFF is if there is no quorum at the meeting. The absence of all PP-governed regions would mean the breakdown of the equality among all Spaniards and the whitewashing of the economic and political corruption of the managers of Catalonia in recent decades, asserts the executive of Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The Madrid region believes the new system of autonomous financing was agreed upon bilaterally by the Spanish and Catalan governments, bypassing the rest of the regions. Therefore, tomorrow's meeting is in doubt, although regional administrations consulted by this newspaper remain open to attending the vote in Madrid.
