KAT stays suspension of two govt. school teachers disciplined for attending RSS event

The Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KAT) in Kalaburagi has temporarily halted the suspension of two government school teachers, Gururaj Joshi and Annasaheb Deshmukh, who were accused of attending a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) event. The order will remain effective until a further hearing on October 9, 2026. The teachers were suspended on August 20, 2026, following allegations made by the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) in Yadgir, C.S.

Mudhol. The DDPI argued that attending the RSS-organized function violated conduct rules for government employees. However, the KAT's ruling indicated that the event was organized by a non-political organization, which does not breach the rules outlined in Rule 5 of the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 2021. Additionally, the tribunal noted that the State government has not issued any official order prohibiting government officials from participating in such events.

By staying the disciplinary action, the tribunal instructed the State government and educational authorities to submit their response.
