Kadjebi gets Farmer Service Centre

The Kadjebi District in Ghana's Oti Region has been chosen as one of the first 11 districts to benefit from the construction of Farmer Service Centres across the country. The new Centre, under construction in Titiaka, a farming community, aims to improve farmers' access to agricultural machinery, inputs, and extension services. Kadjebi District Chief Executive Dr Alhaji Sam Issaka Suraj announced this at the District Assembly's Second Ordinary General Assembly Meeting.

He emphasized that upon completion, the Centre would provide farmers with resources such as tractors, harvesters, fertilizers, improved seeds, storage facilities, and agricultural extension support. Dr Suraj noted that the construction project is progressing well and is currently being overseen by the contractor. He also highlighted other recent developments in the district, including the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Yadzo and the drilling of two mechanized boreholes at Ampeyo and a hand-pump borehole at Kpando Kofe.

Furthermore, Dr Suraj mentioned that the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) has provided three mechanized boreholes and two hand-pump boreholes at Kadjebi to enhance access to clean water. The District Chief Executive also discussed ongoing development projects in the district aimed at enhancing security, road connectivity, healthcare delivery, education, and other essential infrastructure.

Regarding social protection programs, Dr Suraj reported that following the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment and community validation exercises, 5,000 households were validated, with 2,334 households selected for enrollment based on the district's allocation quota. Additionally, the Assembly handed over furniture, including dual desks, mono desks, kindergarten chairs, teachers' tables, and chairs, to the District Education Directorate to address furniture shortages in schools.

Dr Suraj urged Assembly Members to work with the District Narcotics Officer and other stakeholders to intensify public education on substance abuse among the youth, warning of the serious risks posed by this issue. The Assembly also elected Dr Suraj along with four other members to represent the district at the upcoming National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) Conference.
