Itauma gets advice after Hrgovic loss

Tyson Fury has advised Moses Itauma to take his time in rebuilding his career following his ninth-round stoppage loss to Filip Hrgovic at the O2 Arena in London on August 29. Fury stated that Itauma was rushed into his first IBF world heavyweight title opportunity before he was prepared, given his brief professional history of only going the distance in his first five bouts.

The 21-year-old, who boasts a perfect 14-0 record, entered the bout with strong leadings on all three judges' scorecards but appeared to tire badly and struggle against the more experienced Hrgovic. Fury, speaking to journalist Gareth A. Davies while training in Miami, warned that the premature challenge could have financial and developmental consequences for the young British-Nigerian prospect.

He contrasted his own gradual rise through domestic and regional titles before challenging Wladimir Klitschko, emphasizing that taking the proper steps is essential for long-term success. Itauma was hospitalized as a precaution following the fight and subsequently approached his promoter, Frank Warren, to demand an immediate rematch with Hrgovic.

However, Warren urged Itauma to take a step back, recharge, and avoid jumping into another high-stakes championship fight. Itauma addressed the loss on Instagram, acknowledging his disappointment but declaring that he remains undeterred and will use the experience to improve his future performances.
