Iran attacks US targets despite Trump threats

Tehran, Iran - Iran launched attacks on US military bases in Kuwait on September 3, despite President Donald Trump's threats of further strikes, marking a recent escalation in the six-month conflict. Trump had assured his military was ready to strike Iran at any moment following a series of US bombings across the country, which resulted in at least 19 Iranian deaths.

In retaliation, Iran targeted US military installations in Kuwait, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region. This intensifies the ongoing standoff, as Iran continues to control the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil export route, while the US maintains a blockade on Iranian ports. Iran's military chief, Mohsen Rezaei, warned the US that Iran's new strategy aims to "shatter your foundations."

Kuwait's army reported intercepting a missile and drone attack from Iran, and Tehran confirmed targeting US bases in the Gulf state in response to America's actions against Iranian people. The latest conflict began when Washington carried out missile strikes on Iranian targets on Sunday, the first known strikes in weeks, targeting Tehran's plan to place sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran claimed the strikes resulted in casualties, followed by retaliatory attacks on US troops in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as two oil tankers, one of which killed two Filipino sailors. Amidst the military actions, Washington vowed to tighten sanctions on Iran's economy by targeting its trade partners, while the US president considered renaming the Strait of Hormuz as "Trump Strait."

The attacks followed a US strike that killed four people, including a child, in the coastal town of Kuhestak, prompting anger from Iran. Iran's top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, called the US "Satan," and Iranians expressed distress over the return to hostilities, emphasizing the suffering caused to the Iranian people.
