Illinois women’s basketball sell out lower bowl seats

Champaign, Illinois — The University of Illinois women's basketball team has achieved a historic milestone by selling out lower bowl season tickets in consecutive years for the first time in their program's history. Head coach Shauna Green, entering her fifth season, is leading the Illini through a period of resurgence.

Under Green's guidance, the Illini have made remarkable strides. After a 20-year absence from the NCAA Tournament, the team has made three appearances in just four years. Green has also led the team to three 20-win seasons. The Illini, who were among the youngest teams in the nation last year, are now poised for a breakthrough year, aiming to advance past the first weekend of March.

The team's impressive performances have translated into remarkable attendance figures. Three of the top five home crowd attendance records have been set under Green's leadership, including the most recent sellout matchup against the University of Southern California in February. The total home attendance for the 2025-26 season has neared 100,000, making it the second-most successful season in Illini women's basketball history.

The Illini's exceptional performances at home under Coach Green's tenure cannot be understated. Over the past four seasons, they boast a 51-15 record in Champaign. Additionally, Green has secured nine ranked wins for the Illini, five of which were achieved at home, including an impressive upset against the No. 7 ranked Maryland team in a New Year's Day 2026 game.

Looking ahead, the Illini are on the verge of breaking new ground. With momentum behind them, they are poised for a record-breaking season that will undoubtedly elevate the level of excitement and support for women's basketball at the University of Illinois.
