I tested Acer's latest lightweight laptop, and it felt like I was holding nothing at all — but there are some problems

I recently had the opportunity to test Acer's latest lightweight laptop, the Swift Blade 14, at the IFA 2026 event. This slim and lightweight device caught my attention with its nearly weightless feel, weighing in at just under 800 grams. The laptop boasts a slim profile, available in two attractive colors, Marshmallow White and Marshmallow Blue.

Upon picking up the Swift Blade 14, I was struck by its surprisingly light weight, making it feel almost as if it's not there at all. For context, this weight is less than that of a 13-inch iPad Pro with Apple's Magic Keyboard attached. The chassis is constructed using a combination of ultra-light carbon fiber and magnesium-aluminum alloy, contributing to its low weight.

While the lightweight design is impressive, there are some trade-offs. The keyboard and trackpad show signs of compromise. The trackpad is large enough for practical use, but it lacks the premium feel one would expect from a high-end laptop. Additionally, the keyboard deck flexes noticeably when pressed down, indicating a less premium build quality.

Despite these compromises, the laptop does not sacrifice essential features. It is powered by Intel's Core Series 3 processors, with configurations reaching up to the Core 7 350. The 14-inch 3K OLED display delivers vibrant colors and an anti-reflective coating, enhancing the viewing experience. Acer also offers an alternative IPS LCD variant with a 60Hz refresh rate, aimed at a more budget-friendly segment.

In terms of internals, the Swift Blade 14 comes equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. A 50Wh battery ensures sufficient power for regular day-to-day use while on the go. The port selection is satisfactory for a slim laptop, featuring USB-C ports on both sides, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a physical camera switch that allows for easy webcam disabling.

Although Acer has not announced U.S. pricing or availability for the Swift Blade 14, the company confirmed that the laptop will be available in Europe later this year. Further details regarding its arrival in the United States are yet to be disclosed.
