How online mockery turned into N14m for graduate who sold peanuts to survive

A Nigerian university graduate, Madumere Felix Nwachikerendu, also known as @Felix_the_SUG on social media, faced ridicule for his delayed graduation. He was mocked for his appearance, clothing and the fact that he had to sell peanuts to survive financially during his final year at Alex Ekwueme Federal University. The mockery began after photographs of him during his final-year project defence were posted on X, attracting widespread attention and millions of views.

Mercy Ninian, a fellow X user who knew Felix, revealed the harsh reality behind his academic journey. She said Felix endured extreme financial difficulties, fetching water, washing other students' clothes, and hawking peanuts to continue his education. Despite his struggles, Felix refused to give up and even rewrote the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination to return to university.

As the story gained popularity, Nigerians rallied behind Felix, and the situation transformed from mockery to support. Within days, donations poured in, eventually reaching N14m. Felix expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his cause, emphasizing that his journey was fueled by his faith and the promise he made to his late mother.
