High-Precision Water Meters Ordered Across Rawalpindi

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani has mandated the creation of an advanced water metering and tracking system to guarantee precise consumption measurement, curb waste, and ensure fair distribution. During a meeting at his office to discuss the planned water supply from Dadhocha Dam, Director Development Syed Nazarat Ali Shah, WASA MD Azizullah Khan, and representatives from the Cantonment Boards, Housing Department, Irrigation Department, and other entities participated.

Present officials stated that Rawalpindi demands 72 million gallons of water daily (MGD), but only receives 51 MGD. WASA currently sources water from Rawal Dam, Khanpur Dam, and tube wells. Once Dadhocha Dam is in operation, it will provide approximately 35 MGD, with 15 MGD allocated to WASA and 20 MGD to the Cantonment Boards and DHA.

This increased supply will aid in meeting the needs for drinking and domestic water. Ghani mandated the installation of high-precision water meters and requested thorough water consumption monitoring. Additionally, he instructed authorities to utilize greywater for landscaping and green areas, build rainwater collection tanks, and install water recharge wells.

The meeting resolved to establish a technical team to evaluate the proposed transmission, pipeline network, metering, and distribution system, and present recommendations.
