Garuda aircraft carrying 149 people lands safely in Makassar after tyre issue

Garuda Indonesia's Boeing 737-800, flight GA604, landed safely at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar on Thursday after encountering a tyre problem during its journey from Jakarta, according to the airline. The aircraft, registered PK-GFS, was carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members and had departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport earlier in the day.

Civil Aviation Director General Lukman F Laisa reported that the tire on the plane's number three main wheel had burst during the flight. Following the landing, the aircraft was towed from the runway to the parking area for further examination and repair, including a replacement of the damaged main wheel. Initial inspections confirmed that all 141 passengers and the crew were unharmed.

The ministry of transportation is continuing to work with technical teams to conduct additional inspections and repairs while closely monitoring the plane's operations to guarantee the safety of future flights. Lukman emphasized that flight safety and security remain the utmost priorities for Indonesia's aviation authorities.
